Whole-House HEPA

Indoor air quality is a hot topic these days. Asthma and allergies seem to be epidemic - a reflection, some experts say, of building practices that are producing tighter, and therefore more polluted, houses. Broan-NuTone is targeting the problem with its GuardianPlus whole-house HEPA (high-efficiency particulate air) filtration system. Guardian Plus units are lightweight and small enough to install in tight spots like utility rooms or closets, can be fitted to either new or existing forced-air systems, and can handle up to 2,500 square feet of living space. The HEPA filter can remove 99.97 percent of airborne particles, as small as 0.3 microns. The basic system offers indoor filtration only, but Broan-NuTone also offers units with fresh-air ventilation and heat recovery capabilities. The ventilation function removes contaminants even smaller than 0.3 microns, including bacteria and viruses. Broan-NuTone says the product breaks new ground by eliminating the need for individual-room HEPA filtering units at an affordable price - as low as $600 installed. The system features two filters - a pre-filter that is replaced twice a year and the HEPA filter, which is replaced every 12 to 18 months. Each system is controlled by a wall switch, which also reminds homeowners when the filters need servicing.
